2024 Term 1 Counselor's Message

The beginning of an academic year is always really busy. Each Grade has its own challenges with Grade 8 learners acclimating to a new school, a new environment, and increased independence in managing an academic workload. Grade 9s start grappling with Subject Choice.

Grade 10s are adjusting to new subject packages. Grade 11s are considering leadership roles and starting to contemplate lives after Grade 12. Grade 12s are trying to maintain a balance with academics, leadership, extracurriculars, and university applications. In order to help navigate these challenges and prepare for a successful year presentations were conducted at Parent Information Evenings.

We hope that parents were enlightened on the challenges their children face in an ever-changing world. We also hope that these evenings encouraged open communication in family relationships and a better understanding of mental health challenges among teenagers.

Grade 12s have had 8 presentations from Tertiary Institutions thus far. These were informative and interactive and we hope have made the process of applications a bit easier.

We will always be concerned about the learner and school safety. Durban North SAPS was invited to present to our learners during an Assembly. They were accompanied by their Youth Desk and Members of the North Durban Victim Support Team.

We continue to encourage the value of Kindness toward each other. The last three years have meant many changes in the way we interact with each other. Kindness needs to be nurtured in a way that it becomes an integral part of who we are and how we engage with each other at school and in our homes. Our goal should be that kindness guides our every action in 2023.
