Welcome to Northlands Girls’ High School

Northlands Girls’ High School (NGHS) is a dynamic, future-focused school for girls, located in the vibrant suburb of Durban North, South Africa. With a proud history dating back to 1953, NGHS continues to evolve – empowering young women to thrive in a changing world.

Our school is home to around 700 students aged 13 to 18, and is known for its strong academic foundation, inclusive culture, and commitment to excellence in all areas of school life. We encourage each learner to grow into a confident, compassionate, and capable individual – ready to lead, serve, and succeed.

Proud Legacy

NGHS shares a special connection with its brother school, Northwood School, but proudly stands on its own legacy.

Originally established as Durban North High School, NGHS became a girls-only school in 1953 – a transition marked by a symbolic march between the two schools that remains a celebrated part of our story.

Honour and Purpose

Our school badge, bearing a knight’s helm, reflects the values we instil in our learners: courage, integrity, and resilience.

These values guide our commitment to nurturing not only academic achievement but also personal character, leadership, and social responsibility.

At Northlands Girls’ High School, we honour our past – but our focus is firmly on the future.
