Term One – Message from the Headmaster

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Learners,
The term that has just passed has had its fair share of issues around electricity disruptions, internet and WIFI connectivity and refuse collection. It has been most gratifying to note how educators with the help of parents, managed to rise above these challenges to ensure that our girls were able to present the very best of themselves, and make the most of what Northlands Girls’ High has to offer, both in the classroom and in our extramural program. Although the Term 1 reports will only be issued at the start of the 2nd term, I am most encouraged by the good Term 1 results, which I have received to date.
I would like to pay special tribute and record my thanks to our committed and dedicated parents for their support of our girls during the extramural program this term. You have been truly amazing and always willing to go the extra mile to assist. I look forward to your support in the 2nd term.
Our Open Day, held on the 10th February was well supported with over 200 learners and their parents from all our feeder primary schools in attendance. They were most impressed with what we have on offer at Northlands Girls’ High.
From a staffing perspective, it is sad for me to announce the departure of two educator staff members: Ms. S. Naidu (Life Sciences), who is relocating to the Western Cape and Mrs. P. Goble (Geography), who joined us on a temporary basis for the 1st term. Ladies, we wish you the very best in your new endeavours.
In March, we had the full elections of the new School Governing Body. I would like to thank our previous SGB for all their hard-work and logistical support over the past 3 years, and welcome the newly elected SGB.
I would like to place on record my congratulations to:
- Ms. V. Domun, on being elected as the School Governing Body Chairperson.
- Mrs. K. Govender, elected as the SGB Vice-Chairperson.
- Mr. R. Jacobs, elected as the SGB Treasurer.
- Mrs. K. Rangasamy, elected as the SGB Secretary.
Other elected members include:
- Mr. A. Naicker (parent)
- Dr. T. Magwaza (parent)
- Mr. N. Maharaj (parent)
- Mrs. E. Budhu (parent)
- Mr. Z. Sing (parent)
- Mrs. R. Rajkumar (parent)
- Mr. F. Louis (educator)
- Ms. J. Alcock (educator)
- Mrs A. Pillay (non-educator)
- Isiphile Thabethe (learner)
- Nkhazimulo Mbatha (learner)
- Favour Eziagulu (learner)
We wish the new SGB, all the very best during their tenure as school governors.
Unlike previous years, Term 2 this year is less disruptive, in terms of public holidays that fall during the school week. This should make it a lot easier to complete the syllabus for the June Examinations. It is never-the-less imperative that your daughter attend school regularly during the 2nd term, to ensure that she is prepared for the examinations.
I would like to congratulate our 1st Team Hockey on their tour to Treverton College. You did us all proud, ladies!
I hope you enjoyed the holiday break, a time to reflect, re-energise and re-focus. I look forward to seeing you all back on Wednesday, 03rd April, for the start of a busy and exciting Term 2. To our Muslim families who are currently observing Ramadan, may this continue to be a blessed and meaningful period for you, and to our Christian community, I do trust that your Easter period was filled with a wonderful celebration and fellowship.
Do keep safe and a massive thank you to all our parents, for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. T.S. Reddy
