NGHS Old Girls Shine at GSPORT Awards

The GSPORT Awards is a flagship event on South Africa’s sporting calendar, dedicated to honouring and elevating the profile of women in sport. Each year, the Awards serve as a powerful celebration of women’s achievements in sport, a vibrant gathering bringing together South Africa’s sporting elite. With a growing number of nominees and winners annually, the GSPORT Awards reflect the rising diversity, strength, and impact of women’s sport across the country. This year, Northlands Girls’ High School proudly had two NGHS Old Girls among the finalists. Aimee Barrett-Theron (NGHS Class of 2004 ) won the Inverroche Global Woman in Sport category, as she made history in 2024–2025 as the first woman to referee 40 International Rugby Tests and was selected to officiate the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup opener. Tasha Mentasti (NGHS Class of 1998), a multiple-time Surf champion, World Surf League Regional Director for Africa, and Waves for Change Surf Trainer, was awarded Ministerial Recognition of Excellence.
We celebrate these women and the role that they play in women’s sport.
