NGHS Old Girls Speaks to Learners

Northlands Girls’ High School continues to inspire future leaders by connecting learners with real-world role models and opportunities.
NGHS learners recently had the privilege of attending an engaging and inspiring presentation by Sarah Mattsson (Class of 2005), a Chartered Chemical Engineer who is making a meaningful impact in the global STEM space. Sharing her journey from NGHS classrooms to an international career, Sarah brought the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to life, highlighting not only the exciting possibilities within these fields but also the growing demand for skilled professionals across industries.
Through her work with STEMAZING, a UK-based non-profit dedicated to empowering young women to pursue STEM careers, Sarah encouraged learners to see themselves as future innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders. With only 7% of young women in South Africa currently entering STEM fields, her message was both timely and powerful, opening doors to high-demand, rewarding career pathways that are shaping the future.
Beyond career insights, Sarah also shared practical advice on time management, goal setting, and the importance of strong academic performance, equipping learners with the tools to turn ambition into achievement.
It was both an honour and a proud moment for NGHS to welcome Sarah back, celebrating not only her success, but the limitless potential of every NGHS learner to follow in her footsteps and beyond.
